Whee! Timetable changes!

Thanks to PCV now being a two-hour lecture on Fridays, I have four day weekends! Woohoo!

Also, I don’t think I’ll go to many more CFJ lectures, I know it all anyway and the mistakes on the slides are very bad for my mental composure.

New Semester, New Modules

So what am I taking this semester? Well…

G5BPCV - Program Construction and Verification - is taught by Professor Roland Backhouse and should prove easier than PAL and also interesting. Handily, he has a new book to be published early this year which covers roughly the same content.

G53COM - Computability - the study of computability theory, standard models of computing and the like. So far it’s mostly focussed on Turing Machines, which is a shame as the Lambda calculus is far more interesting :-)

G5BCFJ - C/C++ for Java Programmers - easy marks. I sense lecture non-attendance.

G53FSP - Formal Systems Specification - a useful module on software design which should actually present techniques that aren’t management fluff

Anyway, first CFJ lecture soon, I should go to find out what the course is like. Must dash!

h2g2 meets are great

Spent the weekend in London… h2g2 meet on Saturday, the official London winter party of 2003. It was great, as usual - only this time it was greater than usual, as there was more food, more space and a non-smoking area. Plus the ventilation was fantastic, so the smoke didn’t drift very far. I still smelled of it, but that’s my fault for visiting the smoking area to talk to Shazz and Spimcoot.

Galeon 1.3

Well, I just installed the latest CVS version of the Galeon 1.3.x development series - this is the development tree for the GNOME 2 port. And wow is it nice. Some stuff still needs work of course, but it seems reasonably stable, and it does of course look absolutely gorgeous.

I’m going to go to bed now.

NWTUKXV

So it turns out it was the fifteenth or so NWTUK social today…

There were four of us - Clare/Anara, Chris/Eo, Dave/Tem/Celest and Myself/Eldhrin. We sat around and drank, and ate, and drank… and talked a lot. Some intelligent comments even got made - fancy that!

We’re hoping that the result of this discussion will be a cracking roleplay on The Westlands Tower (link in the links box), so fingers crossed…
