AIP exam! Argh!

Yeah, so I’ve revised and stuff, but one can’t help but feel a bit of panic as the 0900 start time looms. And it’s in the sports hall… horrible place for an exam that, although at least here they know the secret of heating them (unlike my secondary school). So I’ll be able to write - but will I have anything to write?

And after all this typing, I’m going to be faced with the usual problem of not being able to write for long without my fingers seizing up. Damn.

Go slow MaW, messy writing doesn’t get marked correctly if the marker can’t understand it.

Good luck everyone else taking the exam, or any other exam for that matter.

Food is good… good food is even better

Best meal since I was at home tonight. Thanks Mick and Ruth for putting so much effort into it!

For the curious, it was home made broccoli and stilton soup, followed by roast pork, followed by home made bread and butter pudding with proper vanilla custard. Absolutely delicious, and I’m now so full I can barely move.

Let’s do that again shall we Mick?

PAL is eeeevil

PAL is very evil. I’m not going to go into too many details of what’s on the exam paper because then people will laugh at me for not being able to do the simple things. I’m just waiting for a flash of inspiration - but at least I’m not dumb enough to think I can prove monotonicity by using monotonicity. That only proves that something is monotonic if it’s monotonic - and that follows from the definition of if and, moreover, is totally useless.

I’ll have another crack at it tomorrow.

On the bad side of things, I think my PAL lecture notes are at home.

Bad news

It is with the greatest sadness that I heard of the death of PC Walker of Nottinghamshire Police last night. The driver of the taxi which caused his injuries has been charged with murder, but it doesn’t offer much comfort given the current state of the criminal justice system.

But I’m not going to spend all morning ranting about that. Nothing’s going to bring back the dead. My deepest condolences to PC Walker’s family, friends and colleagues. Words are far too empty for this.

PhD

Well, I had a very enlightening conversation today about PhDs, and the consequence of which is that I’m now more determined to do one than ever. I’m also a bit more confident about getting funding - but the bad part is that I really do need to get a first to get an easy ride in (or any ride at all). Better do some revision I guess!
