I’ve been thinking…

Quite shocking that really isn’t it? Anyway, had a lecture today - double Program Construction and Verification as is usual for a Friday at twelve, and several things struck me. This is to add to the list of the other things which have struck me recently, and I’m now going to talk about some of them.

The first thing that struck me recently is that I’ve got less than two months in the ideal situation to finish the code for my final-year project. That’s quite a scary one, but the solution is simple - stop dallying and write more code. Perhaps I shouldn’t have bought Generals

The second thing that struck me, kind of as an extension to this, is that I have too many projects on the go. Something has to be done about this - it’s all very well helping people out, but there are things I really want to do which I can’t do because I’ve got too much else on the go, and I can’t do even those things because of University work and the need to do things like eat, sleep and watch The Simpsons. It would be nice if I could get this site finished for Andy (I’m sure he’d appreciate it) and get some serious work done on Towel - although that may have to wait until after I graduate. Perhaps all my projects should wait until after I graduate, but I should probably get a good bit of Andy’s site done before the weather warms up because otherwise I’ll go see him and he’ll be mean to me. Besides, it’s a good project.

Something that just struck me now is that this keyboard is total cr*p. I’m in the labs in Computer Science, and although it’s only a short bike ride away I miss my Logitech Cordless Comfort keyboard. The cordless bit isn’t what’s important, it’s that it’s a shape which my hands can adapt to easily, and that the keys don’t have to be hit with a hammer to get them to register key presses. How does anyone cope on a keyboard like this all day? I’m going to be terrible to employers I can tell, as I’m extremely fussy about keyboards. Especially ones for programming on, as one has to go through all kinds of contortions.

Thankfully Microsoft Natural Keyboards aren’t all that expensive these days and they’re perfectly okay for my purposes.

A fourth thing which I wish to mention today is that I finally get the need for correctly specifying and constructing computer programs - and not only do I get the need, I also understand how these things are done - in a general kind of way which I hope will get more specific as the semester proceeds. This strikes me as a Good Thing.

And a fifth thing is that I’m going to stop typing now because my fingers are starting to ache.
